Dunlea Centre’s history spanning 80 years will be preserved and housed at its refurbished Museum thanks to a $120,000 contribution from the Clubgrants Infrastructure Grants Program.
Liberal Member for Heathcote Lee Evans said “The project will preserve the rich history of the centre, which is Australia’s Original Boys’ Town.
The funding will help redevelop and upgrade the historical and cultural museum so it can be used for more talks, historical tours, presentations to the public and other events. Dunlea Centre has been a pillar of the community for 80 years, and was founded to help adolescent children and their families at risk of breakdown. The centre continues to help young people develop social and life skills and supports families in crisis.”
Minister for Racing Paul Toole said the grant was funded through the Clubgrants Category 3 Infrastructure Grants Program. These grants are funded by a contribution from the state’s registered clubs to reinvest profits from gaming machines back into community projects.
Mr Paul Mastronardi, Executive Director, Dunlea Centre said “Fr Tom Dunlea had the vision to establish a program for Youth back in 1939. It is as relevant today as ever. We are grateful for the support of the Infrastructure Grants Program.”
Dunlea Centre’s Museum will be officially opened at its 80th Birthday Celebrations, 1st August, 2019.
